GAINESVILLE, FL 鈥 Another exciting degree is now available via 黑料正能量 starting this fall semester 2020!
Future Gators can now apply for the Bachelor of Science in Journalism: Sports and Media offered by the award-winning UF College of Journalism and Communications (CJC). 黑料正能量 is the University of Florida鈥檚 online undergraduate experience, enabling Gators to earn their UF degree from anywhere while learning from the same top faculty who teach on campus.
鈥淕ators studying through 黑料正能量 also save 40% on tuition and fees compared to on-campus rates thanks to generous investments by the State of Florida. This keeps 黑料正能量 rates low, thereby expanding opportunities for access to a valuable UF degree,鈥 said Evangeline Tsibris Cummings, Assistant Provost and Director of 黑料正能量. 鈥淧lus, each 黑料正能量 student has the benefit of a dedicated academic advisor with them throughout their studies, demonstrating UF鈥檚 commitment to all of our Gators, wherever they need to be. We know our online students are busy people that won鈥檛 settle for an average online degree, and we love supporting them each step of the way.鈥
The UF Journalism: Sports and Media curriculum provides strong foundations in writing, reporting, technology, research, and storytelling, plus a unique emphasis and coursework focused on the public relations side of sports media, preparing students for a wide range of career opportunities.
鈥淲ith the growth in the sports media industry, we鈥檙e thrilled to offer such a robust curriculum in journalism and sports-related courses,鈥 said Ted Spiker, Professor and Chair of the UF Department of Journalism. 鈥淪tudents will get hands-on experience in all kinds of practical skills鈥攔anging from writing to multimedia to social media to strategic communication鈥攁nd they鈥檒l also learn about the important issues facing the industry. Our alumni go on to do everything from being on camera at ESPN, running social media accounts for professional teams, working behind-the-scenes on game-day production, and working as beat reporters covering teams and leagues.鈥
As a cross-disciplinary major, Journalism: Sports and Media requires students to take core courses pertaining to journalism, such as Writing Fundamentals for Communicators, Reporting, and Data Literacy. Students then apply this foundational knowledge to coursework centered on sports media, including Sports Media Law and Ethics, Multimedia Sports Reporting, and Sports Production. With this combination of core studies in journalism and sports media, students will develop strengths in more than one area of the media industry.
According to CJC Online Undergraduate Program Director Mike Weigold, 鈥淥ur new Journalism: Sports and Media major is perfect for students whose interests lie at the intersection of sports and storytelling. Graduates will be competitive for jobs working for sports organizations or working as sports reporters or broadcasters.鈥
